Comunicado de esclarecimento sobre suspensão de atividades da secção consular no Irão (Português/English)

Hoje, na Comissão de Negócios Estrangeiros e Comunidades Portuguesas, o Ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros foi questionado por um Senhor Deputado sobre a suspensão das atividades da Secção Consular da Embaixada de Portugal em Teerão e as respetivas razões.

O Ministro respondeu confirmando essa suspensão, por razões de segurança, que disse não poder identificar publicamente.

Para que não haja interpretações erróneas desse facto, é importante esclarecer agora o seguinte:

a) as razões de segurança prendem-se com as condições de funcionamento da Secção Consular, estão a ser identificadas e corrigidas e, uma vez ultrapassadas, possibilitarão a retoma do seu funcionamento, tão brevemente quanto possível;

b) a suspensão das atividades da Secção Consular compreende todas as atividades, não se dirigindo especificamente à emissão de vistos para cidadãos iranianos (ou dos outros países cobertos pelo posto) em viagem para Portugal;

c) a suspensão é uma decisão cautelar das autoridades portuguesas, para melhorar a segurança do seu posto consular, e em nada resulta de uma avaliação sobre as condições gerais de segurança na República do Irão, ou qualquer outro aspeto de natureza institucional ou política;

d) a suspensão é temporária, pelo mais breve prazo possível, e, enquanto durar, procurar-se-ão meios alternativos para a emissão dos documentos indispensáveis à circulação de pessoas.

Today, during a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities Committee of the Portuguese Parliament, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was questioned by a Committee member about the reasons for the suspension of the activities of the Consular Section of the Portuguese Embassy in Tehran.

The Minister replied by confirming the suspension, for security reasons, which he stated could not identify publicly. In order to ensure that there are no misinterpretations, it is important to clarify the following:

a) The aforementioned security reasons are related to the working conditions of the Consular Section, that are being identified and corrected and that, once this process is concluded, will allow the resumption of its operations as soon as possible;

b) The suspension of the activities of the Consular Section includes all activities, not only those specifically related to the issuing of visas for Iranian citizens (or for other countries covered by the Embassy) traveling to Portugal;

(c) The suspension is a precautionary measure taken by the Portuguese authorities to improve the security of its Consular Section and does not result from an assessment of the general security conditions in the Republic of Iran or from any other institutional or political reasons;

(d) The suspension is temporary and, for its duration, alternative measures will be sought to issue the documents necessary for the movement of people.
