Biography

Pedro Nuno Teixeira was born in Porto in 1972.

He graduated in Economics from the University of Porto Faculty of Econommics (1995), master’s degree in Economics from Twente University – The Netherlands (1998) and a PhD in Ecoomics from Exeter University (2003). He was a researcher or visiting professor at Oxford University, University of California-Berkeley and New York State University– Albany (the latter as a fellow under the New Century Scholars – Fulbright Commission).

Chair professor at the University of Porto Faculty of Economics and Director or CIPES – Higher Education Policy Research Centre.

He has focused his research on an economic and political analysis of education (namely in higher education) and the history of economic thought. He was written several works in these two areas.

He was a consultant for the Civilian House of the Presidency of the Republic for Higher Education and Science (2016-2021) and Higher Education and Economic Recovery (2021 - 2022).

He was Vice-Dean for Training and Academic Organisation of the University of Porto (2014-2018).

He was a member of the National Education Council (2014-2018) and the Education Board of the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation (2013-2018). He was a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Bial Foundation (from 2015) representing the Council of Deans of Portuguese Universities. 

He was Secretary General of CHER – Consortium of Higher Education Researchers (from 2013). Member of the Evaluator Panel of the Institutional Evaluation Program of the European University Association and ENQA – European Association of Quality Agencies. He was a research Fellow at IZA – Institute for the Study of Labor.

Member of the Europaea Academy (from 2021).
