Antero Luís

Biography

Antero Luís was born in 1960 in Vinhais. 

He graduated from the Law School of the Universidade Clássica de Lisboa (1979-1984). He attended the IV Judicial Studies Training Course (1985-1987).

Studying for a Master’s in criminal law at the Portuguese Catholic University, Oporto Law School. 

Guest lecturer at the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences, on the Postgraduate Course in Intelligence and Security, teaching the module Security Intelligence and Counterintelligence.

Between 1984 and 1985 he was the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office in the district of Alfândega da Fé. 

Between 1987 and 1993 he worked successively in various districts of the country (Bragança, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Marco de Canaveses and Vila Nova de Gaia). 

Between 1995 and 1999 he was General Secretary of the Portuguese Judges Union. 

From 1993 to 2000 he served successively as president of the judicial district of Faro, of the 3rd Criminal Court of Lisbon, of the 2nd Criminal Court of Oporto and of the 1st Criminal Court of Oporto in accumulation with the Judge of the Oporto Sentencing Division. Between July 2000 and September 2001, he was Deputy Director of Judicial Affairs UNTAET and member of the 1st Transitional Government of East Timor. 

Between September 2001 and October 2002, he was an international judge at UNTAET/UNMISET for the serious crimes that occurred in East Timor during the Indonesian occupation. 

Between 2003 and 2005, in an interpolated manner, he served as advisor to the Minister of Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Justice of Sao Tome and Principe. 

Between 2004 and 2005 he was a member and spokesperson of the Superior Council of Magistracy. 

In 2005 he was appointed assistant judge at the Oporto Court of Appeal. 

Between 2005 and 2011 he was Director of the Security Intelligence Service. 

On 31 August 2009 he was promoted to Chief Judge of the Court of Appeal of Porto. 

Between 2011 and 2014 he was Secretary General of the Internal Security System. 

Between 2014 and 2019 he has been Chief Judge at the Court of Appeal of Lisbon.
