The Prime Minister of Portugal António Costa highlighted that "the United States are together with Europe as an integral part of NATO" during a press conference following the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit held in Brussels.

António Costa noted that this summit gave "a very important dual signal": "Not just the return of the United States to the core of NATO, but also reclaiming the United Kingdom as an integral part of Europe and the common will of EU Member States to strengthen ties with NATO".

"This is the essential outcome of this Summit" said António Costa, referring to the "clear and unequivocal" statement by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, who underwrote the commitment with NATO and the United State’s commitment with the "respect for all duties by NATO members".

"We turned the page on a difficult chapter NATO experienced in the last few years and this is the essential outcome of the summit", he reiterated, claiming also that there is "a willingness to have increasingly closer cooperation between the EU and NATO in the fields of common interest", such as resources for military defence, but also civilian matters, such as cybersecurity.

The Prime Minister highlighted the "new spirit" with which the participants left the Summit and pointing towards the summit to be held in Madrid in 2022, with their eyes cast on the NATO 2030 Initiative.
