Portugal sends Covid-19 vaccines to East Timor

Portugal sent, this September, 130 thousand shots of Covid-19 vaccines, together with the material required to administer them, namely syringes and needles. These were handed over in Dili to the Timor authorities.

This initiative is part of a commitment to send vaccines to the Portuguese-Speaking African countries and East Timor, under the political commitment to allocate to those countries, which are our main cooperation partners, at least 5% of the Covid-19 vaccines procured by Portugal. This is part of the second phase of the Action Plan to respond to the pandemic between Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking African Countries and East Timor.

This initiative stems from the joint effort of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, via Camões – the Institute for Cooperation and Language and the Portuguese Embassy in Dili, and the Ministry of Health, via the Directorate-General for Health, the Portuguese Medicines Agency (Infarmed) and the National Covid-19 Vaccination Task Force in Portugal.
