The Portal dados.gov – The Public Administration Open Data Portal – contributed to Portugal rising five ranks in the European Union’s Open Data Maturity Study, "Open Data Maturity in EU".
The study assesses the maturity level against four dimensions: policy, portal, impact, and quality, and offers recommendations adapted to the level of maturity and features of each of those groups. It groups the countries into four different groups: trend-setters, fast-trackers, followers, and beginners, from the most mature to the least mature. The dados.gov portal is currently in the beginners group, with 66% fulfilment.
The dados.gov portal recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and its main task is to collect, reference and add open data from different public administration domains and systems. It is thereby a central catalogue of open data in Portugal.
The portal is developed and run by AMA and is based on the platform created by Etalab, made available in open code (uData). It currently includes data from 127 organisations, with 2666 users and 4888 datasets. 51 reuses have been recorded, with 33 thousand monthly visitors on average.
The public service of disclosing data also operates as a portal to index other open data portals/catalogues, sectoral or local.
The open data were identified by the European Union as a pillar for the development of its economy, envisaging that the value derived from its reuse will increase four-fold between 2018 and 2030, with an estimate of reaching a value of 184 billion euros by then. In this way, the dados.gov portal estimates that it will continue its strong growth in a sustained manner to continue to earn users’ trust and reach an increasingly higher number of reuses, always based on the principles of transparency, information, trust, and responsibility.
