The target of having 85% of the population of mainland Portugal fully vaccinated against Covid-19 has been met.

Around 15.3 million vaccines were given in mainland Portugal, meaning that 8.4 million people are now fully vaccinated.

Portugal has thus become the first country in the world to reach the target of having 85% if its population vaccinated.

If we focus on teenagers only, from the age of 12 to 17, in mainland Portugal we estimate that around 88% have had their first shot and of these, 83% will have been fully vaccinated (both shots).

This important milestone was only possible thanks to the dedication and effort by all healthcare professionals and other entities engaged in this vaccination campaign, including the armed forces, security forces, and the municipalities.

There has been in this country a pillar that is the foundation of this success, for more than four decades now: the National Health Service, which boasts excellent professionals and makes Portugal a healthier, fairer, and more inclusive country.

We also praise the way the population took part in this vaccination campaign, an essential contribution for Portugal to reach the set targets. The Portuguese people trusted science, vaccines and their benefits.
