As you know, transport represents almost a quarter of Europe's greenhouse gas emissions and is the main cause of air pollution in cities. A large part of these emissions comes from private vehicles.
The high dependence on individual transport, particularly for commuting, is associated with a high negative impact on greenhouse gas emissions, which worsen in situations of congestion, and has negative impacts on air quality and on road safety. Therefore, we must keep investing in the public transport. Public transport must be more attractive and competitive compared to the private car.
This challenge is reflected in the European Green Deal, which sets out a strategy for making the EU economy sustainable, and ensuring economic growth decoupled from resource exploitation.
