The Portuguese Government, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, and Portuguese communities mobilize to support the region of Manaus

In one of the most challenging moments of the Covid-19 pandemic in the region of Manaus, the Portuguese Government and Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa provide a financial support of 50.000 euros (approximately 319 800 reais) towards the efforts of the Hospital Beneficiente Português do Amazonas.

This support, granted in articulation with the Portuguese Embassy in Brasilia and with the Honorary Consulate in Manaus, which provides a permanent support service to all national citizens in Amazonas, is complemented by the solidarity and the efforts of Brazil's Portuguese and Portuguese-descendant community.

As a philanthropic institution, founded by Portuguese in the city of Manaus in 1873, the Hospital Beneficiente Português do Amazonas provides supplementary services to Brazil's Unified Health System. Nowadays, it is a reference hospital in the state of Amazonas, which not only offers support to a community of approximately 5.000 Portuguese and Portuguese-descendant residents but also to the entire population of the region. This institution has consistently served Brazil and continues to do so in the current Covid-19 pandemic's difficult situation.
