Announcements
Portugal delivers more vaccines against Covid-19 to Mozambique this week, which raises the total number of vaccines already made available to that country to 547,000.
After a third batch of 200,000 doses of the vaccine was delivered last October 30th, a fourth batch of 187,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines will arrive in Maputo on the 4th of November, accompanied by the necessary material for its administration, which contributes to the efforts that the Mozambican State has undertaken in order to strengthen its response to Covid-19, through the widespread vaccination of the population.
This action stems from the political commitment to make available to Portuguese-speaking African countries and East Timor at least 5% of the Covid-19 vaccines acquired by Portugal. This is part of the second phase of the Action Plan in the sanitary response to the Covid-19 pandemic, that was established between Portugal, Lusophone African countries, and East Timor.
The operationalization of this action is the result of joint work between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, namely through the Camões Institute for Cooperation and Language, the Portuguese Embassy in Maputo, and the Ministry of Health, through the Directorate-General of Health (DGS) and the National Authority for Medicine and Health Products (Infarmed).
The transportation of these vaccines is supported by TAP under the Institutional Partnership Agreement signed on the 30th of September between the national carrier and the Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language, with the aim of promoting collaboration between both institutions, with a special focus on the transportation of vaccines against Covid-19 and respective consumables to the Portuguese-speaking African countries and Brazil.
