«Portugal
supports the initiative of asking the Commission to propose a contingency plan to support the Union’s transport sector in order to cope
with the effects of crises like the one we are currently going through.
The
first objective of the plan should be to prevent interruptions in supply chains
and ensure the continuous availability of products and essential goods. And its success depends on the close
cooperation between institutions, in particular with health and home affairs
authorities.
During
a crisis, any disruption of supply can cause social alarm. Unilateral and uncoordinated restrictions, must be avoided and major trade routes along the Trans-European
Networks and local distribution chains must remain intact».
