Prime Minister met with the Ukrainian Chairman of Parliament

The Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro met yesterday with the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk, to whom he reiterated “Portugal’s full support to the cause of the Ukrainian people, their legitimate defence against Russian’s aggression, and the efforts of the authorities to achieve just and long-lasting peace”.

In a statement posted on social media, the Prime Minister stressed that Portugal will continue to “always lend its voice” to this purpose within the framework of the European Union, NATO, the Coalition of the Willing, and the United Nations.

During their encounter, the meeting held in Kyiv in December 2025 was recalled. The two leaders noted the role of the Ukrainian community in Portugal and its “excellent integration” in the country.

The meeting enabled addressing opportunities to boost the ties between Portugal and Ukraine on a political, economic, and defence level.

“Ukraine can continue to always count on Portugal”, the Prime Minister claimed.

Ruslan Stefanchuk was in Portugal due to institutional contacts, including a meeting in Parliament, where he thanked the Portuguese solidarity and asked for the continuing support for Ukraine.
