RRF: Portugal receives 1.34 billion paid out of the 6th payment request

Recovery and Resilience Facility

Portugal has just received a new transfer from the European Commission in the amount of 1.34 billion euros under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). This is the sixth payment and is a clear signal of the confidence of the European authorities in the plan’s execution.

This sum, which includes 851 million euros in grants and 485 million euros in loans was unlocked based on concrete achievements: 32 milestones and targets met in several strategic areas such as health, education, digital transition, climate, forestry, and assistance to companies.

"This payment is not just a number; it’s proof that Portugal is executing the RRF in an efficient manner. It is therefore the reflection of thousands of man-hours, teams on the ground, projects that are transforming people’s lives and modernising the country", claimed the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion Castro Almeida.

With this new payment, Portugal has already received 57% of the RRF’s overall allocation. The path maintains the same ambition and commitment; to continue to execute the reforms and investments for a more cohesive, sustainable, and digital country.

The 7th payment request was submitted to the Commission on 26 June, meaning that Portugal is keeping up with the schedule agreed on with Brussels.

The 7th RRF payment request includes milestones and targets associated with 21 investments and 5 reforms on structural areas such as health, housing, social responses, corporate capitalisation and innovation, skills and qualifications, forestry, hydrogen and renewables, the sea, energy Independence and the green transition, quality and sustainability of public finance, more efficient public administration, and e-schooling.

With these 27 milestones and targets referring to the 7th payment request met, the RRF execution rate has gone up to 47%.

The Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Facility is funded by 22.2 billion euros in grants and loans. The funds paid to date stand at 11.4 billion euros, 57% of the total allocation.
