At the moment there are 48 Israeli hostages (20 of whom dead) still held by the terrorist group Hamas following the attack on 7 October 2023.
President Donald Trump announced that Israel and the terrorist group accepted "the first phase" of his peace plan with the partial withdrawal of the Israeli troops from Gaza and the release of the living hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
The plan will move forward with dismantling Hamas and setting up a provisional transition Government.
