Prime Minister on official visit to the People’s Republic of China and Japan

The Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro will travel in official capacity to the People’s Republic of China and Japan from 9 to 12 September together with the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion. The Minister of Environment and Energy will also be travelling to China.

The trip starts in Beijing with meetings with the Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji, and the Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang. The schedule also includes a tribute at the Monument to the People’s Heroes, signing bilateral legal instruments, and a gala dinner.

The following day, the Prime Minister will meet with the Head of the Executive Sam Hou-fai, visit the Portuguese School and offer a reception to the Portuguese Community at the Portuguese Consul-General’s residence.

The trip to Japan begins in Tokyo, where Luís Montenegro will meet the Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The schedule includes a joint press conference, a meeting at the Keidanren (Japanese Corporate Federation), with leading representatives of Japanese multinational corporations in attendance, as well as a meeting with the Portuguese athletes who take part in the World Athletics Championships. 

The trip ends in Osaka with a visit to the Portuguese Pavilion at Expo 2025 under the theme "Oceans: Blue Dialogue".
