Portuguese Embassy in Iran closed

Government statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that yesterday, 14 January, it was determined that the Portuguese Embassy in Iran will be closed until further notice.

All the Portuguese citizens who reside in Iran have been contacted and 8 have already left the country. Some citizens are currently trying to leave (with reserved diligences for security reasons) and the remaining ten Portuguese citizens (seven of whom have dual nationality – Portuguese and Iranian) decided to remain in Iran.

This is the current status, plus, we advise to not take any trips to Iran, as had been disclosed in the Portuguese Communities Portal given the current tension and the latent armed conflict situation in the region, which is a significant risk.
