Prime Minister Luís Montenegro told the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that Portugal maintains "full solidarity and constant support" to Ukraine in fighting the Russian invasion, as well as peace and rebuilding efforts.
Luís Montenegro posted on X after the Ukrainian Head of State posted on the same social media platform the phone conversation they had both had.
"I restated full solidarity and constant support from Portugal, as well as disavowal and condemnation for Russia’s continuous strikes", Luís Montenegro wrote.
"We shall continue to endeavour to ensure just and lasting peace. Portugal will stand by Ukraine’s side and its rebuilding efforts", he added.
In his message, Volodymyr Zelensky noted he had discussed with Luís Montenegro "Portuguese companies’ involvement in Ukraine’s recovery and the joint production of drones".
Zelensky also noted that during the phone conversation, "the diplomatic efforts and the development of security guarantees" were addressed, adding that for the Coalition of The Willing meeting in Paris on 5 December "to discuss the points on security guarantee drafted" "we are counting on Portugal’s attendance".
"One of the main components of the security guarantees we see is Ukraine joining the EU. We agreed that on this path, no division between Ukraine and Moldavia should be allowed", President Zelensky wrote.
The Coalition of the Willing has 30 countries, including Portugal, willing to offer Ukraine security guarantees to stop a new Russian aggression once the current conflict is over.
