New airport location in the Alcochete Firing Range validated

Lisbon Airport

The Government validated the location of the new Lisbon airport in the Alcochete Firing Range and confirmed the bid is consistently moving forward following analysis of the Selected Site Report and the Environmental Impact Study delivered by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal.

In the reply sent to the concessionaire, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing notes the progress of the works and the schedule catch-up, stressing the sustained evolution of the bid for the NAL – Luís de Camões Airport.

The agreement lies on locating it at the Alcochete Firing Range’s eastern extremity, a solution that coincides with the previously studied one and the Conditionally Favourable Environmental Impact Statement in 2010.

On environmental terms, we note the importance of the Environmental Impact Study to be delivered to the Portuguese Environment Agency in July, integrating relevant priors and ensure articulation with the municipalities involved.

As for the Master Plan, the Government acknowledges the advances, yet identifies the need for adjustments, namely in reconfiguring the Pier Swing to boost operational flexibility.

The Executive however maintains reservations on the traffic forecasts presented by ANA, considering them to be too conservative and alerting to the risk to compromise the proper scaling of the airport and therefore asks for their revision.

Among the next steps, we note delivery of the Technical Report by 16 July 2026 and the Environmental Impact Study that same month.
