On Tuesday, 27 January, the Portuguese Prime Minister travelled to the Fénix Rehabilitation Centre in Ourém, in the central part of Portugal, where he heard tales and expressed once again the Portuguese Government’s constant support to a people who fight for their freedom daily.
As Luís Montenegro stated, Portugal "supports Ukraine since day one of the Russian invasion on a financial, political, and military level".
This group of women and children is in Portugal since 10 January under a European programme to assist families in war situations.
The group of 15 mothers and 18 children are relatives of Ukrainian soldiers who are either deceased or missing in action, under a humanitarian mission where Portugal houses them for three weeks, helping them along their emotional rehabilitation.
They are taken in by the Fénix Rehabilitation Centre in Ourém in the Santarém district. There are several activities set to visit the country’s historical and cultural sites, as well as psychological support.
"This is the scale that touches us the most, the human scale. Whether here or on Ukrainian soil, we are associated with projects that are in fact intense and with a great impact", Luís Montenegro claimed.
