The Ministry of Justice was informed of the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index 2025, which indicated Portugal lost one point in the rating and dropped three places in the general ranking.
According to the Ministry, of the eight international indices considered, Portugal retained its rating in two, rose in three, and dropped in two, with the overall score the average of those indicators, reporting to different periods. For this reason, the reforms under way may not yet be reflected in the reports used.
The Anticorruption Agenda, approved in June 2024, is the strategic document to plan the measures to prevent and fight corruption. Drafting it entailed a thorough assessment of the National Anticorruption Strategy 2020-2024 implementation.
The document is 42 pages long with the aim of preventing and repressing corruption. The vast majority of the measures is already under way, many at a final stage, and 17 have already been completed. The implementation report will be presented in Parliament shortly.
The fight against corruption is taken on as a central responsibility, including prevention, training, and repression measures. A new facility for losses due to criminal activities is of note.
