"This is a project of strategic impact that exemplifies the path to move forward for public policy around critical infrastructure" said the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Miguel Pinto Luz on the partnership between Start Campus, located in the Sines Data Campus, and Nscale, a global Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform housed in Europe to set up a large capacity graphics processing centre to assist Microsoft in supplying advanced AI resources throughout the European Union.
This agreement materializes the efforts undertaken by the Government, specifically the Infrastructure and Housing area to place Portugal as an international leader in digital technology and Artificial Intelligence.
The Government’s Programme has the aim of increasing the number of tech base technologies setting up shop in the country to lever the development of high value sectors, such as data centres, digital services, the data-based economy, and technological industry.
Miguel Pinto Luz added that "it is important for governance to be conducted taking into account the future generations and ensuring long-term sustainability, and this investment is fuelled using renewable energy".
