The Government approved a 50-euro rise in the minimum wage in 2026 from 870 to 920 euros, announced the Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting in Sintra.
Leitão Amaro stressed that this is a "significant rise" and that in the year in a half of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro’s Governments in office, the minimum wage rises 100 euros. This rise "is part of the policy to boost the Portuguese people’s income, sustained by an unrivalled moment in the national economy" and lowering the tax burden.
The Minister said that by approving this rise, the Government is "strictly abiding by" the income agreement signed by the Government and the workers ad employers’ representatives in October 2024.
