The Ministries of Finance and of Health will transfer 1.23 billion euros from the Local Healthcare Units and Portuguese Oncology Institutes with the aim of settling the NHS’s debt with foreign suppliers.
The measure is part of the Government’s strategy to boost the National Health Service’s financial sustainability and ensure the continuity of quality healthcare accessible to all citizens.
The sums now allocated are to pay debts with over 60 days, the payment of which is to be done by order of the oldest owed.
The implementation of this financial boost will be monitored by the Health System’s Central Administration and the Inspectorate-General for Finance.
The new boost will offer continuity to the Government’s political response to this matter. In 2025, it had already transferred 1.299 billion euros under this facility, consolidating a strategy of boosting the National Health Service’s sustainability.
