The Government is investing 60.25 million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (PRR) to increase the national public service electricity grid (RESP)’s flexibility and security through the installation of electricity storage systems, commonly known as batteries.
The Minister of Environment and Energy Maria da Graça Carvalho stresses that the "measure responds to the grid’s need for greater resilience and predicted rise in consumption related to future investments".
The funding handled by the Climate Agency is for private renewable power producer companies, contributing to ensuring a more flexible and efficient system management and additional support to the grids’ security, minimising supply shortages.
The projects will be backed via non-refundable grants up to 20% of the eligible costs and should be concluded up to 24 months following signature of the terms of acceptance with the Environmental Fund.
Maria da Graça Carvalho stresses that the investment anticipates the predicted rise in electricity consumption related to industrial investments in green hydrogen and the capacity to generate renewable power that will be associated herewith.
