Contingency measures strengthened at Humberto Delgado airport

The Government decided to suspend effective immediately and for three months the Entry Exit System (EES) and boost by 30% the capabilities of the external border electronic and physical equipment at Humberto Delgado airport in Lisbon.

It was likewise decided to immediately boost human resources working at the airport by resorting to the National Republican Guard’s certified capabilities in border control.

The decision to temporarily suspend the EES was taken under the relevant European regulations given the worsening of the bottlenecks in the "arrivals area" at Lisbon airport with European passengers travelling from outside the Schengen area.

The implementation and reinforcement of the contingency measures defined in September aims at achieving the reduction in waiting times that have been achieved at Humberto Delgado airport’s departures area.
