This Friday, Portugal was formally announced as Chair of the D9+ Group for the second half of 2025, following on from The Netherlands, who will be chair in the first half of the year.
The D9+ Group brings together the EU Member States considered to be leaders in the digital transition. This is the first time Portugal takes on the group’s helm, a striking moment to reaffirm the country’s position regarding digitalisation and modernisation, both at national level and the European context.
Set up on 5 September 2016, the D9+ brings together Member States that share similar ideas and interests. It was progressively enlarged and currently has 13 Member States, namely Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic.
The group meets on a regular basis to discuss matters of particular relevance to the participants with the aim of contributing to the European Commission and Council’s work on digital matters.
The D9+ Ministerial meeting was held on 26 and 27 September in Copenhagen, where the Minister of Youth and Modernisation Margarida Balseiro Lopes represented Portugal.
