Biography

Ana Fontoura Gouveia was born in Figueira da Foz in 1982. 

She has a PhD in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics, where she completed her studies in 2015. 

Economist at the Bank of Portugal from 2004 to 2008 in the fields of National Financial Accounts and Foreign Accounts. 

She worked at the European Central Bank up to 2014, first in the field of Monetary and Financial Statistics, and then in the European Institutions and Fora Division. 

In 2015, she worked in the Ministry of Economy’s Strategy and Studies Office, where she led the Economic Context Analysis team. 

She worked in the Ministry of Finance’s GPEARI up to 2018 and was in charge of the Economic, Research and Forecast Analysis Department. 

In 2018, she returned to the Bank of Portugal, where she worked as an economist in the Structural Analysis and Public Finance Division. 

Economic Advisor in the Cabinet of the Prime Minister from the end of 2019 to January 2023. 

Guest professor at Nova School of Business and Economics, where she has been teaching since 2016. 

In the 2012/2013 school year she was given a sabbatical from the ECB and attended Nova School of Business and Economics, the University of Liège and the Toulouse School of Economics for her PhD. 

She has written several papers o public policy, the theme in which she specialised. Throughout the years she has represented Portugal in several international Working Groups, namely at the OECD, the European Commission, and the European System of Central Banks.
