Nuno Fazenda

Biography

Nuno Fazenda was born in Covilhã in 1976.

He holds a PhD from the Instituto Superior Técnico in Regional and Urban Planning, a master’s degree from Aveiro University in Environmental Management and Policy, and an undergraduate degree in Tourism from Algarve University.

He worked on the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Committee from 2001 to 2014, in Porto. Here, he was an expert-coordinator on the Regional Tourism Agenda – Action Plan for Developing Tourism in the Northern Region and coordinator of the Vale do Douro Tourism Development Plan.

He headed the European Programme Management Department at the Turismo de Portugal Tourism Board (2014-2019), where he was in charge of regional development, managing European programmes, as well as coordinating the National Tourism Strategy in force - Estratégia Turismo 2027.

He was non-executive member of the Governing Board of the Côa Parque Foundation.

He was a Member of Parliament elected by the Castelo Branco district and was on the following parliamentary committees: (i) Economy, Innovation, Public works and Housing, (ii) Committee to monitor the implementation of measures to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic and social recovery process, and (iii) Environment, Energy and Land Planning Committee. He was the coordinator of the Socialist Party’s Parliamentary Group in this latter committee.

He was re-elected as member of parliament for the current Government and took on the role of Chair of the Parliamentary Subcommittee for monitoring the European Funds and the RRF.

He was international expert for the World Centre of Excellence for Destinations.

He was professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in the field of Tourism more than a decade ago namely for degrees as well as training executives at Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics.
