There’s €5M available for tourism enterprises and projects affected by fires

Benefits will be available for the municipalities in Odemira, Aljezur, Monchique, Proença-a-Nova, and Castelo Branco

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade and Services, Nuno Fazenda, launched on Saturday two lines of financial assistance for tourism enterprises and projects affected by the fires in August 2023 in the municipalities of Odemira, Aljezur, Monchique, Proença-a-Nova, and Castelo Branco.

These benefits will help respond to the needs of both the territory and the entrepreneurs, heard by the Secretary of State when he visited the region in the aftermath of the August 2023 fire. "We are thereby reaching out and supporting touristic promotion in one of our country’s most beautiful regions", Nuno Fazenda stated on Saturday 4 November in Odemira.

3 million for treasury and investment

The Regenerar Empresas do Turismo – Incêndios 2023 [Regenerating Tourism Enterprises – 2023 Fires] Line provides 3 million euros to assist tourism enterprises in recovering and rehabilitating their assets hit by the fires.

It will be on offer to all the tourism enterprises located in the territories that suffered, with a ceiling of 400 thousand euros per project and a co-payment rate or 90%, where lost funds can only be up to 200 thousand euros or with a composite scale between lost fund and refundable incentive at zero rate for amounts over 200 thousand euros.

2 million for regeneration, tourism enhancement, and territory promotion

The Regenerar Territórios – Incêndios 2023 [Regenerating Territories – 2023 Fires] will offer 2 million euros to assist with tourism product restructuring and tourist promotion projects.

This is for public and non-profit private bodies, with a ceiling of 400 thousand euros per project, at a lost fund, with a co-payment rate of 90%.

The applications must be sent formally to Turismo de Portugal.

An agreement was also signed between the Alentejo and the Algarve Tourism Regional Bodies for a joint tourist promotion campaign for the domestic market and the foreign market on the Alentejo Southeastern area and the Vicentina coast.
