The Prime Minister is travelling on 3 February to Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR) to visit the Deployed National Forces.
Under the scope of this trip, the Prime Minister is set to meet with the President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Valentine Sendanyoye Rugwabiza.
Portugal has been continuously present in the Central African Republic, and this is the largest contingent of Deployed National Forces.
At the moment, Portugal has troops in the two EU mission and MINUSCA - Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (UN). The missions in the CAR have Portuguese troops in command positions.
The European Union has two missions operating in the Central African Republic: a military training mission (EUTM RCA- European Union Training Mission in Central African Republic) and a civilian advisory and monitoring mission (EUAM RCA- European Union Advisory Mission to the Central African Republic), with Portugal taking part and leading in both.
Portugal began its participation in MINUSCA in 2017. It is the most important national engagement in Peace Keeping Operations.
