Portugal provided technical support for elections in São Tomé e Príncipe

Portugal supported elections in São Tomé e Príncipe

Under the cooperation agreements between Portugal and São Tomé e Príncipe, the Ministry of Home Affairs, through the MHA’s Secretariat-General Electoral Administration, collaborated with the São Tomé e Príncipe National Electoral Committee to hold the Legislative, Regional and Local elections in the country.

The collaboration was technical support for elections which, in a first stage, includes drafting and producing the deeds of the electoral operations, the voting bulleting models and sundry support material.

The electoral acts involved a total of 240,500 voting bulletins, 2,885 electoral operation minutes, 4,000 security seals and other material, to a total of 5.14 tonnes of material sent by Portugal.

A team from the Electoral Administration was in-person at the São Tomé e Príncipe National Electoral Committee facilities, to monitor the more than 36 hours of operations for the provisional ballot, supporting the local team technically.

This collaboration also allowed for the exchange of knowledge and experiences with the São Tomé e Príncipe National Electoral Committee with regard to provisional ballot operations.
