Portugal donates 2.1 million euros to Ukraine

Portuguese Prime Minister's speech at the High-Level International Donor's Conference for Ukraine

"The brutal invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation is an unacceptable act of war in the 21st Century", claimed Prime Minister António Costa at the High-Level International Donor’s Conference for Ukraine, co-hosted by Poland and Sweden, in partnership with the European Union.

"The consequences of this aggression extend far beyond the Ukrainian territory. Millions of refugees seeking safety all over our continent. Portugal is no exception, and we are proud of it. Despite being the westernmost country of Europe and the furthest from Ukraine, it has already received 35 thousand Ukrainian refugees. To these people we reaffirm our strongest commitment to ensure their security and well-being", António Costa claimed.

The Prime Minister stated that Portugal is ready to pledge a financial contribution to the United Nations response of 1 million euros, as well as an additional 1.1 million euros of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, to a total sum of 2.1 million euros.

"Portugal stands for Ukraine, and I wish all the success to this initiative" he claimed.

The conference will begin a set of events to support Ukraine with the aim of mobilising immediate international aid by collecting funds to meet Ukraine’s growing humanitarian needs.

The meeting was for Heads of State and Government and also included representatives of global corporations and institutions.
