Portugal backs Finland and Sweden joining NATO

Prime Minister António Costa claimed Portugal’s support to Finland and Sweden’s application to NATO, as it contributes to consolidating the European Union and strengthen the Atlantic Alliance’s external border on his Twitter account, after the Finnish and Swedish Ambassadors to NATO delivered their countries’ application request.

"We view Finland and Sweden’s application to NATO with optimism and confidence. It is an important step towards consolidating the European bloc, reinforcing cohesion in the Alliance’s response and strengthening our external border", he wrote, adding that "you can count on Portugal’s support".
