Portugal and Belgium committed to a low carbon economy

Minister of Economy and Maritime Affairs, António Costa Silva, and the Belgian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Labour Pierre-Yves Dermagne visited the Sines Port facilities, 26 May 2023

The Minister of Economy and Maritime Affairs, António Costa Silva, and the Belgian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Labour, Pierre-Yves Dermagne, visited the Sines Port facilities, including REN and Galp.

The working visit was an opportunity for dialogue on issues of interest to both countries, while identifying new areas for cooperation, exchange, and strengthening partnerships.

António Costa Silva believes that "collaboration in fields such as renewable energies and environmental sustainability is fundamental to face the global challenges of climate change".

"Both countries have shown the commitment to transition to a low-carbon economy and the exchange of knowledge and technology in these areas may generate mutual benefits and contribute towards a more sustainable future", he remarked.

Pierre-Yves Dermagne noted "the potential of both countries in the energy sector and the technological revolution", recalling that companies in both countries are leading the sector.

We recall that Portugal has stood out as an example of commitment to sustainability. "We are moving forward quickly in the transition to a low-carbon economy, increasing renewables in our energy mix", the Minister of Economy and Maritime Affairs underlined.

"We are proud to say we are leaders in the production of wind and solar power and continue to work hard to being carbon neutral by 2050", he concluded.
