The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs João Gomes Cravinho travelled to Peru and at the end of his trip he highlighted "the huge growth potential" identified by the Portuguese companies operating in the country, as well as "convergence points" with the Peruvian authorities.
On a visit to Lima for the opening of the Lima International Book Fair, the Minister had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Peru Pedro Castillo, on the 21st. At this meeting, the excellent status of the ties that unite Portugal and Peru was noted, without overlooking the commitment to encourage the promotion of culture and bringing both countries closer together.
On the 22nd, Gomes Cravinho met with his Peruvian counterpart César Landa to discuss bilateral affairs with a view to strengthening dialogue in the fields of culture and the economy, as well as matters on the international agenda, such as the war in Ukraine
"There are several convergence points, such as condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We also have common matters to address under our participation in the Ibero-American conference", said the Portuguese Minister.
On the economic side, João Gomes Cravinho met with Portuguese companies: "we have here 15 companies that are well ingrained in the Peruvian economy", offering as an example Mota-Engil, which has been in the country "for three decades and which has a highly expressive order portfolio". "They all say the growth potential is huge", he claimed.
Lima Book Fair
The Minister, who took part in the opening of the Lima Book Fair, of which Portugal is a guest of honour, noted the great interest the Peruvians have in Portuguese literature.
"The opening of the Fair was a moment of success and a manifestation of the great interest the Peruvian people have in Portuguese literature and Portuguese authors, may of which will be here over the following days", Gomes Cravinho told press agency Lusa. The Portuguese participation is focused on José Saramago, who will be honoured during the fair.
The Portuguese delegation that took part in opening the fair included 12 Portuguese language authors, or associated with spreading Portuguese language, among which Afonso Cruz, David Machado, Jerónimo Pizarro, José Luís Peixoto and Margarida Vale de Gato, as well as filmmaker António-Pedro Vasconcelos and the musicians Marta Pereira da Costa and Pedro Joia.
