Speech of Minister in the Cabinet of the Prime Minister and for Parliamentary Affairs at the «International Migration Review Forum - United Nations»

It is a pleasure to address you at this Policy Debate. As a Global Compact for Migration «Champion Country», Portugal is fully committed to its goals, and was among the first Member States to approve a National Implementation Plan.

Three years after the launch of this Plan, I am pleased to share with you some of the results achieved:

- First, the regularization of over one hundred sixty-seven thousand foreign citizens and the vaccination of six hundred thousand migrants, regardless of their status, in the context of Covid-19.

- Second, the allocation of three hundred thirty-six thousand social security numbers to foreign citizens wishing to initiate their professional activity in Portugal, promoting their regularization.

- Third, the review of Portuguese Language courses specifically designed for foreign citizens, benefitting thousands of migrants.»
