Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs deepens ocean cooperation

The Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs, José Maria Costa, will be travelling to Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, on 11 and 12 November to hold several bilateral meetings on the side of COP27, and following the 2nd UN Ocean Conference.

On 11 November, the Secretary of State will meet with the US Assistant Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Mónica Medina, with the Egyptian Vice-Minister of Administrative Development, Digital Transformation and Automation, Khaled El Attar, and with the Chairman for the General Authority of Suez Canal Economic Zone, Waleid Gamal El-Dien. 

The meetings will address matters pertaining to strengthening cooperation among countries in the field of oceans, particularly literacy, national maritime strategy, maritime transport and renewable ocean energy. 

 On 12 November, the Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs will attend the opening session of the "Green Shipping Challenge - a Climate Smart, Equitable and Resilient Maritime Sector: Turning Commitments into Action Globally" event organised by the UN Global Compact, where the commitments undertaken by various countries at COP27 will be discussed and deepened with regard to the decarbonisation of maritime transport.
