Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security at the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development

The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, will attend, as of Monday, the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 15 February in New York, under the general theme "Creating full and productive employment and decent work for all as a way of overcoming inequalities to accelerate the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development".

Ana Mendes Godinho is scheduled to make three speeches. The first one is on the 6th at the opening of a discussion on intergenerational dialogue, called "Intergenerational Dialogue and participation as a tool to create full and productive employment and decent work for all, overcome inequalities and achieve SDGs by 2030". This event is co-hosted by Portugal’s Permanent Mission and the EU’s Delegation at the UN.

On the 7th, the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security will give a speech at the Ministerial Forum on Social Development, that addresses dignified work. 

On the 8th, she will give a speech at the High-Level Panel to signal the fourth revision and evaluation of the Madrid International Action Plan on Ageing.

The Minister will also have bilateral meetings with the Vice-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed; the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Economic and Social Affairs, Li Junhua; the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Policy, Guy Ryder; and the Director and Special Representative of the International Labour Organization at the United Nations, Beate Andrees.

Meetings with the Portuguese community to present the "Return" programme

At the same time, Ana Mendes Godinho will present the "Return" programme at two meetings with representatives of the Portuguese communities in the consular areas of New York and Newark.
