Floods in Venezuela – Team from the consulate on the ground offering full support to the Portuguese community in Tejerías

The Government has been closely following the situation in Tejerías, Arágua state from the start and a team from the consulate is on the ground to assist the around 300 members of the Portuguese community who might need assistance.

In addition to the team on the ground, the Embassy and Consulate in Venezuela are following the situation permanently and attempting to contact the members of the Portuguese community in the locality. The Secretary of State for the Portuguese Communities, Paulo Cafôfo, is travelling to Venezuela on Tuesday to closely follow the situation.

The heavy rainfall on the night of Saturday to Sunday caused great destruction in the localities affected by the adverse weather conditions, which also caused fatalities, which the Government is sorry for, offering its solidarity and condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as the Venezuelan authorities and the entire population.

The floods this weekend dragged people and goods along with them and the rescue, housing and cleaning operations are now under way, restricted by the difficulties in communications, namely due to electricity shortages.
