Paulo Macedo
Minister of Health
Paulo Macedo was born in 1963. He graduated in Business
Organisation and Management from the Higher Institute of Economics
and Management (ISEG), Technical University of Lisbon (1986), and
completed the Advanced Business Management Programme at AESE
Business School, Lisbon (2001).
He was Vice-Chairman of the Banco Comercial Português (BCP)
Executive Board of Directors (2008-2011), and non executive
Vice-Chairman of several companies in the BCP Group (April-June
2011). He was also a Member of the Supervisory Board of Bank
Millennium (Poland) (2008-2011) and a Member of the Supervisory
Board of Euronext (2010-2011).
After serving as Director-General of Taxation and Chairman of
the Tax Administration Board (2004-2007), he returned to the Banco
Comercial Português. He is also a former Member of the Executive
Board of Seguros e Pensões (2003-2004), of the Board of Directors
of Médis, Companhia Portuguesa de Seguros de Saúde, SA (2001-2004),
of the Board of Directors of Interbanco (2000-2001) and of the
Board of Directors of Comercial Leasing (1998-2000).
Between 1993 and 1998 he held a number of management positions
at Banco Comercial Português.
He started his career at Arthur Andersen, where he successively
held the positions of Assistant, Senior Consultant and Manager
until 1993.
From 1986 to 1999 he lectured at the Higher Institute of
Economics and Management (ISEG), on the MBA Course at the AESE
Business School, on Post-Graduate Courses in Taxation (Institute
for Finance and Tax Studies - IESF), Tax Management and Management
for Banks and Insurance Companies (Higher Institute of Economics
and Management - ISEG, Technical University of Lisbon).
He served on the Committee for the Development of Tax Reform
(1994-1996) and on the Working Group for the Reassessment of Tax
Concessions (1997).
He was also a Member of ISEG's MBA Business Advisory Board,
accredited by the Association of MBAs, and a Member of the
Strategic Advisory Board on Informal Economy of the Portuguese
Catholic University, Oporto.
