1. The Portuguese Government condemns in the strongest manner
the attack in Benghazi that killed the U.S. Ambassador in Tripoli
and three other American embassy staff. This is an unacceptable act
of violence and upmost disregard for the most elementary norms of
diplomatic representation.
2. The Minister of State, Minister for Foreign Affairs Paulo
Portas has conveyed on his and the Portuguese Government's behalf,
condolences to the Secretary of State and the victims'
families.
3. The Portuguese government stresses the importance of a speedy
condemnation of this attack by the Libyan authorities, as well as
its commitment to the judicial accountability of the
perpetrators.
4. The Portuguese government will continue to support Libya's
government in its stabilization process.
