Minister of Finance
Vítor Gaspar graduated from the Faculty of Human Sciences,
Portuguese Catholic University, in 1982. He received his Masters
Degree and Doctorate in Economics from the Faculty of Economics,
New University of Lisbon, in 1985 and 1988, respectively. The same
university awarded him the academic title of «agregado» in
1992.
Main positions held: Director of Economic Research Department,
Ministry of Finance (1989 - 1992); Consultant to the Bank of
Portugal's Board of Directors (January 1993 - October 1994);
Director of Economic Research Department, Bank of Portugal (October
1994 - September 1998); Director-General for Economic Research,
European Central Bank (September 1998 - December 2004);
Director-General of the European Commission's Bureau of Economic
Policy Advisers (January 2007 - February 2010); Consultant to the
Bank of Portugal (March 2010 - June 2011).
Author of numerous scientific publications, most notably:
