The Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho said he hopes «common
sense does not lead to the European launch of threats to the Greeks
as to what might happen to them in retaliation» of the their
decisions. Instead, «the appeal must be directed to the notion of
responsibility, of wisdom, of practical sense of
organization that states need to have». These statements were made
in the biweekly debate in Parliament responding to a
question.
Adding that there also need a «vote of confidence expressed in
our desire that Greece remains within Europe, remains within the
European project and the euro», Pedro Passos Coelho said that this
is «essential».
In the aftermath of greek elections Prime Minister had said that
all Europe is concerned that there is a «stable solution» of
government in Greece, although «the reading of the election results
do not predict a simple process». «I think at this stage what
worries most European countries is to wait for a solution that
allows the creation of a government that gives stability to Greece
and the Greeks». And he stressed: «I'm more concerned to see how it
is possible to build a stable government out of the elections that
took place this weekend».
About the influence that the situation in Greece may have in
Portugal, Pedro Passos Coelho concluded: «Not only Portugal, but
all Europe would benefit from a stability system in Greece, because
it is a country that is under economic and financial assistance and
measures that must be applied require parliamentary strength and a
stable government».
